Visit real sand castles

Make a new friend on holiday, with unlimited access you can really get to know your horse. Help with the feeding, grooming and mucking out and of course enjoy riding or driving out on one of our well-sprung carriages. You can start off on our own farm trails, before venturing out into the vast National Park that surrounds us.

*See Rooms Here*

Enjoy the deserted surfing beaches of Caripateira just 6 kilometres to the west and the sheltered coves and quaint villages of the Algarve coast 12 kilometres south, riding through a maze of forest trails and open meadows. We often ride all day without meeting another person, but the wildlife more than compensates for our isolation and Lagos, a popular cosmopolitan tourist town is only 20 minutes away.

You will be accommodated either in the main bunk house, sleeping up to four or one of the two family rooms with 3 beds and cot space. You will eat with the family in the hall of the old stone barn. Breakfasts at the Lodge tend to be quite casual and is a help yourself buffet, especially if the cook is going out riding that day.

See below fully inclusive last minute holidays

Lunch, our mid day meal, is usually either a picnic on route or if we are near the stables or a suitable fire pit, something grilled over a wood fire and washed down with our excellent local wine. Dinner is not included, but most nights our farm kitchen is serving one or two local specialties and being Portugal we tend to eat a lot of fish and we produce our own lamb, pork and poultry. See menus here. There are also many excellent places to eat locally to suite all tastes and pockets.

Many of our horses were born here

Perched in the hills above Cape St Vincent, the south west tip of Europe, accommodation is a dormitory or family room in a restored 300 year old stone barn. You will have every opportunity to experience real farm life - the rooms have basic spartan furnishings, and there are 2 communal bathrooms with occasional hot showers! The Smithy does have its own en suite shower room.

«experience real farm-life»
There is a large common room with a huge log fire for the cooler evenings where local horsemen and carriage drivers are often to be found spinning tall stories and boasting of their skill in the saddle! Sheets and blankets are included but as it is occasionally possible to sleep out on the beach or on the trail, if you wish!we recommend bringing your own sleeping bag and towel.

Another option is an overnight stay in a covered wagon with an extended trek and a cookout with can be included as part of your holiday. A guide would normally accompany you and assist in setting up your overnight camp and you would have a mobile phone and 4x4 backup.

We offer holidays without strict rules and timetables. There is always time for relaxing; breakfast is at your convenience and within reason you can ride when you want. The horses have a day off in the middle of the week. You either can relax and soak up the sun , take the bus to Lagos or with a hire car - there is plenty to do in the surrounding areas. Our nearest surfing beach is 6km as the eagle fly's.

FULLY INCLUSIVE 7 night "learn to ride and drive farmhouse holiday"

When we say fully inclusive that's what we mean. With 3 hearty meals a day, wine and juice included. We are offering these special last minute late booking holidays until the end of September at an unbeatable price. We have a limited availability with only 3 guest rooms and 10 horses and ponies, so you are guaranteed plenty of individual tuition. You will learn how to saddle or harness your horse, how to mount, walk, trot and hopefully canter. Friendly informal guidance at your own pace in the training ring and when you are ready, out on the hundreds of miles of virtually traffic free trails that surround our farm and run down to the coast. During the week we will arrange 2 rest days, when we will provide transport to Lagos, which is a vibrant fishing harbour with an endless range of Galleries, restaurants, museums and many sandy beaches. Its also possible to go to the remote sandy west coast surfing beaches only 6 kilometres west of the farm. We can arrange collection from Faro Airport or Lagos train station.

Before booking your flights please email us to confirm there is still space on your preferred week. We can

A real Farmhouse Holiday Party. On arrival you will be shown to your seasonally decorated room and met with a welcome cocktail in front of a roaring log fire in the great hall, which will also have been decorated to reflect the special holiday season. If you are with us over Christmas Day don't forget a few little gifts to put in your fellow guest stocking.

After you have had a chance to settle in , its down to the stables to meet your horse. We will do our best to match you with a suitable friend in relation to your weight and riding or driving experience. Our groom guides will be available to show you how to get your horse ready and if necessary a few brief lessons in the training arena un till you feel confident to venture out into the countryside. To freely explore some of the hundred of miles of traffic free trails, criss crossing the Cabo Vincentena National Park. In December we should have the beaches almost to ourselves apart from the odd dog walker or brave surfer.

We are planning several day long trails with excellent barbeque or picnic stops. If the weather should let us down there are several welcoming hostelries where we can dry off after a shower. All our rooms have wood burning fires, it cools off a lot at night, but with average daytime temperatures near 20ºC/68ºF and an average rainfall of only 65mm, Santa should be looking forward to a sunny welcome at the Lodge. Here we break with tradition and Santa arrives in a pony and trap, Rudolf and the sleigh are left at home! Sorry no snow.
