Our horses are locally bred, Cruzado português, sturdy and well natured. They are ideally suited to both the undulating countryside and the wide open sands of our beaches. They cope well with the occasional summer heat wave and have no problems with our mild winter climes. The Cruzado Português has developed from a time honoured blend of the pure bred Lusitano and the more temperamental Arab. Strong and intelligent, they will pull all day but still respond sensitively to the most demanding rider.

Our team at the New Forest Lodge have grown up with our horses; and we have all become firm friends over the years.The groom guides have a wide knowledge of the endless trails that criss cross the Costa Vincentina national park, they know the best beaches, the coolest swimming lakes and the coolest bars. They are on hand to guide and help you and they have an extensive knowledge of the local wildlife.

For all of us at the Lodge, our horses are a way of life, not a job. We all enjoy riding and driving and look forward to sharing our corner of paradise with you.
